A Women’s Point of View: Don’t underestimate the power of a good suit

There is nothing nicer than a guy in a suit. Really, it’s true. Sure, the hoodie and baseball cap look is cute but there is something reassuring about seeing a confident guy in a great fitting suit. Looking around it seems that I’m not only who agrees with this.  And, you don’t have to look very far.  From characters like Mad Men’s Don Draper to the recently released fedora wearing team in The Adjustment Bureau the suit is everywhere.

With the unraveling of global economies, wars, and the general chaos thrust upon the world in the last two years, I think there is something very paternal about the suit. For many, the memories probably lie in a figure of authority that would take charge and make our world a safer place to sleep in every night. We wouldn’t take a world leader seriously in skinny jeans and a scarf now would we?

And now there is even more suit to love. This season’s trend which will continue strongly into the fall and winter of 2011 is showing the return of the three-piece suit to mainstream popularity. It is a real power suit. Even when you take off your jacket and roll up your sleeves (a respectful nod to President Obama) you still have a vest and trouser combination that mean business. This is a huge shift in popular culture that has valued khaki pants and the blue button down as the office standard.  When you dress better, you think better and you perform better.  Couldn’t the world use a little better these days?
