A sport coat is a classic and essential  item in any man’s wardrobe.   Many times the terms sport coat and blazer are used inter-changeably, and yet they are two different things. The difference between a men’s sport coat and a suit jacket is also subtle but worth noting. The main difference: a suit jacket has a matching pair of pants and a sport coat does not. Also, the sport coat is usually made of more casual fabrics than a suit jacket, and sometimes a sport coat has a looser, more casual fit.  In any case, the possibilities are endless and this versatility lends itself to mixing and matching many items already in your closet. It can be worn casually, as shown here, with jeans and sneakers or dressed up for work or a special event. Whatever the occasion or your mood, you can define your own sense of style with this classic.

Originally sport coats were worn as casual attire for hunting and other outdoor sports. Today the sports coat is used as casual wear or even as work attire that is still professional, but not entirely corporate. The look you  see here would be quite appropriate for an office in a creative field and then dinner with clients afterwards. This combination of a black shirt with black pants creates an air of sophistication and has a bit of a sexy lounge look to it.   Edgy, while safe.   For a completely different look you can treat the gray as a neutral and play with various colours and patterns with your shirt underneath. Really the options are endless  with this stellar classic ensemble. How you show your personality  through the inclusion of colour, pattern, accessories or shoes is entirely up to you.

With the acceptance of a more informal dress code at the office, business casual is a comfortably relaxed version of classic business attire, with no sacrifice of professionalism. For men, this indicates dress trousers, a dress shirt, a tie (optional) and a jacket , blazer or sport coat.  The shoes take on a dressier tone and the fabrics are richer, emphasizing quality, fit and tailoring.  Here a black blazer may mean business but it doesn’t have to be boring. Combing this dark jacket with a classic tan pant creates a look that is still polished and professional. The addition of a colourful dress shirt  and pocket square in a traditional stripe is the perfect way to take this outfit from basic to bold allowing you to be both
    appropriate and stylish.
